Revenue attribution: measure sales influenced by your AI chatbot

Track sales and signups from visitors who chatted with your Helpnest agent. Set up a one-line conversion call or no-code goal pages.

Revenue attribution shows how much revenue your agent influences. When a visitor who chatted with your agent in the last 30 days buys or signs up, Helpnest credits that conversion to the agent. Set it up from an agent's Integration tab, under Revenue attribution.

What you'll see

The Revenue influenced by Helpnest panel on your Overview shows:

  • Revenue from visitors who chatted in the 30 days before converting, compared with the previous period.
  • How many conversions followed a chat, out of all conversions.
  • How much more likely visitors are to convert when they chat than when they don't.
  • The most recent influenced conversions, each linked to its conversation.

Set up with code

Use this when you know the order value, for example on a checkout confirmation page. The widget script must already be on your site.

  1. Add the loader above the widget script on every page. It lets you report conversions even before the widget finishes loading.
  2. Report the conversion on your order confirmation or signup success page.
1. Above the widget script
<script>window.helpnest=window.helpnest||function(){(helpnest.q=helpnest.q||[]).push(arguments)}</script>
2. On the confirmation page
helpnest("conversion", { value: 49.00, currency: "USD", orderId: "ORDER_ID", name: "purchase" });
FieldDetails
valueThe amount of the sale. Use 0 for signups.
currencyOptional. Defaults to the agent's default currency, which you can change in the Integration tab.
orderIdRecommended. Prevents double counting when the confirmation page reloads.
nameOptional label, such as purchase or trial signup.

After the widget loads, window.Helpnest.conversion({ ... }) works too.

Set up with goal pages

No code needed. Choose Add goal page, then enter a name, a page path and an optional value. A conversion is counted whenever a visitor reaches that page.

  • Use an exact path like /thank-you, or use * as a wildcard, like /checkout/success*.
  • Reloads by the same visitor within 30 minutes count once.
  • Each agent can have up to 10 goal pages.

How visitors are tracked

  • The widget stores an anonymous id in your site's local storage (helpnest:aid) and records one visit per agent per day. The id isn't linked to a name or email unless the visitor shares one in chat.
  • Tracking runs on every page with the widget script, even pages where the chat bubble is hidden.
  • Only domains in Allowed domains are tracked, if you set any.
  • Visitors who block scripts or storage aren't counted.
You are responsible for telling visitors about this storage in your own privacy policy and getting any consent your local law requires.

Reading the numbers

Conversions are reported by the visitor's browser, so treat the figures as directional rather than accounting-grade. Restrict your allowed domains to make fake reports harder. A higher conversion rate after chatting shows a correlation, not proof that the chat caused the sale.
