Feedback portal, roadmap and changelog

Give customers a public page to suggest ideas and vote, share your roadmap, publish a changelog, and email voters when their request ships.

Each workspace can have one public feedback portal at /portal/your-name, with three tabs: Feedback, Roadmap and Changelog. Visitors don't need an account.

Set up your portal

Open Feedback in the sidebar and choose a title, address and accent colour. The portal uses your workspace logo. Under Settings you can hide the portal, stop new posts, require approval before posts appear, and turn team emails about new posts on or off. Only owners and admins can change these settings.

Boards and posts

New portals start with two boards, Feature requests and Bugs. You can add up to 20 boards; deleting a board deletes its posts. Each post has a status: Open, Under review, Planned, In progress, Completed or Closed. Closed posts are hidden from the public list. Teammates can add posts on a customer's behalf, pin posts, reply publicly (marked Team), or leave internal notes that visitors never see.

Voting and duplicates

Visitors vote once per post per browser; voting again removes the vote. Posting or commenting asks for a name and, optionally, an email. While someone types a title, the portal shows similar existing posts so they can vote instead of filing a duplicate. Votes are tied to a browser, not a verified account, so treat counts as a signal rather than an exact tally.

Roadmap

The roadmap shows Planned, In progress and Completed posts, ordered by votes. Change a post's status from the list, the roadmap view or the post panel.

Changelog

Open Changelog in the sidebar to write updates in Markdown, label them New, Improved or Fixed, and link the feedback posts they deliver. Drafts stay private. The first time you publish an entry, its linked posts move to Completed.

Email updates

Voters who left an email hear from you when a post they voted for moves to Planned, In progress or Completed, and when a changelog entry that delivers it is published. Each email has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can skip the email for a single status change in the post panel. Emails need the Unitpost configuration described in the README.

Add it to your app

Paste one script tag to add a Feedback button that opens your board, roadmap and updates in a side panel. Find the snippet with your portal name under Feedback → Settings → Add to your app.

Before </body>
<script src="https://www.helpnest.app/feedback.js" data-portal="your-portal" defer></script>

Any element with a data-helpnest-feedback attribute also opens the panel. Its value can be a portal path such as /roadmap.

Single sign-on

Recognise your app's signed-in users so they never log in twice. On your server, sign an HS256 JWT with the portal's SSO secret. It must include the user's id and an exp, and can include email, name and an https avatar. Pass the token to the widget with data-token or HelpnestFeedback("identify", { token }), or link to /api/portal/your-portal/sso?token=…. Votes the visitor made anonymously in that browser move to their account. Without a token, visitors can still vote and are asked for their name the first time they post or comment.

Keep the SSO secret on your server. Regenerating it immediately invalidates tokens signed with the old secret.

Custom domain

Connect a subdomain you own, such as feedback.yourcompany.com, under Settings → Custom domain, then add the CNAME record shown there at your DNS provider. Use Check again to see when it's live. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours.

Paid plans remove the “Create your own board” link from the portal.
